Lecture series

The lecture series takes place every summer semester in addition to the IZWT colloquium and is always dedicated to a specific topic of public interest. In addition to external guests, scientists from the University of Wuppertal also give lectures. The lecture series takes place in the city centre of Elberfeld and is aimed not only at an academic audience but also at interested members of the public.

Summer term 2021: Universities in transition: between profile development and institutional renewal

Universities face a variety of challenges. On the one hand, they need to develop a recognisable profile in research and teaching and introduce students to new areas of research and teaching. On the other hand, they need to address general social changes and become pioneers of social change. The lecture series deals with "profile building" and "institutional renewal" as two central challenges. Current sociological findings from empirical university research will be presented and discussed. The German university system will take centre stage.
