Lecture series
The lecture series takes place every summer semester in addition to the IZWT colloquium and is always dedicated to a specific topic of public interest. In addition to external guests, scientists from the University of Wuppertal also give lectures. The lecture series takes place in the city centre of Elberfeld and is aimed not only at an academic audience but also at interested members of the public.
Summer term 2023: The revolution of our world view - On the 550th birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus
The most important revolution in our cosmological ideas goes back to Nicholas Copernicus. Who was this astronomer and what constituted his work? Who influenced him and what influence did he have on the research of his time? What significance did the Copernican revolution have for the world that followed, scientifically but also politically, philosophically and literary? Four public lectures on the occasion of the 550th birthday of Nicholas Copernicus will explore these questions from the perspective of various disciplines.
