Lecture series
The lecture series takes place every summer semester in addition to the IZWT colloquium and is always dedicated to a specific topic of public interest. In addition to external guests, scientists from the University of Wuppertal also give lectures. The lecture series takes place in the city centre of Elberfeld and is aimed not only at an academic audience but also at interested members of the public.
Summer term 2024: Scientific misconduct
By scientific misconduct, we mean deliberate or negligent violations of methodological conventions or scientific ethical standards, for example through plagiarism or the invention, ignoring or manipulation of data and empirical findings. The reason for this is generally seen in the incentive system of science, especially in the pressure to publish as quickly and as much as possible and to acquire third-party funding.
The lecture series deals with various aspects of the problem from an interdisciplinary perspective: the misleading ideal of value-free science, the influence of teaching evaluations on good scientific practice, the use of AI in detecting plagiarism and the normative requirements arising from the problem.
